About Me
Professional Background
My name is Joel Solomon. I’m originally from Philadelphia, PA. I moved to Denver in 1987. I graduated from Temple University in 1987 with a BA in Communications and Theater. I’ve worked for several radio stations, including WRTI 90.1 FM in Philly, and KDEN, KHOW, KNUS, and KUVO in Denver.
After several years working in radio, I decided to switch careers and become a teacher. I received my teaching certification from the University of Denver in 1993, and taught 4th and 5th grade for 6 years in Aurora and Cherry Creek School district.
I then took a job as a Technology Specialist at Sagebrush Elementary in 2001. After 3 years at Sagebrush, I enrolled in a Masters Program at the University of Colorado at Denver, and received a Masters Degree (MA) in Information and Learning Technologies in 2004.
My job then changed again, to Instructional Technology Coach, supporting teachers to integrate technology into instruction. This lasted 4 years, until our Tech Coach Group became Instructional Coach. This new position focused more on best instructional practices and less on the technology site. I realized after 2 years as an Instructional Coach that I missed working with students. I also missed working with technology.
Currently I work at Village East Community Elementary School as a Technology Specialist, similar to what I did at Sagebrush 7 years ago. I now see students all day in the computer lab, and I LOVE IT! Check out the Village East Protopage to see some of the resources and projects students are doing this year.
