So you're serious about starting your own business on the Web...now what? Once you've decided on the products/services to offer on your website, the next step is to make it happen! Answer these questions to help give you an overview of what you'll need to consider when starting an online business:
1)
Do I know what goods and services I want to sell?
A good
place to start! Be sure you know your products, and can provide
details about each item to help customers gain more information.
The more information you include with each product or service
offered, the more familiar customers will be about your products.
2)
Do I have a web host for my site?
Be sure
you have a web host for your site. For more about what to consider
when choosing a web host, see my "how
to set up an Internet business" page. Average cost: $99/year.
3)
Can I design the site myself or do I need help?
If you
do not have any website design experience, it's easy to wind up
paying someone too much without knowing what you're really getting.
Some web hosts offer whole packages: domain name, hosting service,
and web design. Usually this is a flat rate, which is often more
expensive than putting your OWN package together by using different
sources for each part of the process.
JoelSolomon.com offers website design services and assistance. I will help you set up your site for the lowest cost possible. During an initial consultation, ideas will be exchanged in order to get an overall vision for your site. I will then use your ideas to create THREE sample home pages for your approval.
If you are not satisfied with the three samples I've created, you owe nothing!!
The home page MUST be approved BY YOU before work begins
on the rest of your site.
All prices include a FREE initial consultation and THREE sample home pages created for your approval.
To learn more about some of the design services offered at JoelSolomon.com, or to find out more about setting up your own website, please explore the "Design Pages" on the right. These pages provide step-by-step instructions for creating your own site.
With the advent of "Web 2.0" services, having your own site doesn't have to be an involved process. You could start your own blog or wiki and be up and running in a matter of minutes! However, if you have a business or provide services, having complete control of your own website becomes more important. Creating custom logos, accepting credit cards, and adding interactivity to a site, is not always possible with free providers.
I hope you find some of the resources and links on JoelSolomon.com useful.
