Here is a 'rubric' our group created to help define the elements of good website design.

NAVIGATION
  • Easy to move forward and backward within the site
  • Requires users to use BACK button in browser instead of within site
  • Can't get back to where you were
  • Navigation buttons are aligned on the top or left, spaced evenly, and text navigation is on bottom of page
  • Navigation buttons are on right and bottom of page only
  • Buttons aren't visible without scrolling to see.
  • Users search for information via database/keyword search
  • Users can find info on home page or site map
  • Users cannot find specific info quickly
  • Rollover buttons are used to help users identify links
  • Links are underlined to show navigation.
  • Dead links. Users receive message:"404 error: file not found"
USABILITY
  • Information is easily accessible (site map or keyword search)
  • Information is available by linking to other pages within site
  • Animations and clutter make info difficult to find
  • First impression is attractive to the eye. Home page loads quickly
  • Content is useful but may be hard to access. Some images take a long time to load.
  • Content is vague, home page requires plug-in for users to download before viewing.
  • Info is appropriate for the audience that the site was intended for.
